(SL) Children's Home Backyard Garden

For most children in rural Sierra Leone, farm work is seen as a means of punishment. The children only focus their attention on the labor that the discipline entails, forgetting about the knowledge, skills, and the income the grower gains to support their livelihood.

This project will create the awareness in the children that agriculture is a business that gives people the skills required to create income that makes them self-sufficient.

Also, this project will encourage the children to know when, where, and how to grow their own food instead of depending solely on the local market for food. Teaching the children these values and life lessons will help create sustainable, long-lasting change in the communities COTN serves.
