In Malawi, there are several students in the villages we serve who are not currently on a path to complete high school successfully. Most of these students started school late, which has caused them to repeat grades, or they've struggled in other ways that have set them back.

ZOE is a highly effective and faithful empowerment ministry model for orphans and vulnerable children around the world and has a proven track record of helping children move toward sustainable solutions that alleviate poverty.

COTN is using the ZOE model to enroll our students in a three-year program that will empower and equip them with skills they can use in the future, regardless of whether or not they finish high school. This program involves skills training, mentorship, business training, and start-up packages that will allow students to generate sustainable income to support themselves and their families.

As students continue in the program, they are taught to become financially independent and may be able to pay school fees for their siblings and, if they desire,  pay their own school fees to continue in school. COTN-Malawi will work with the ZOE groups to ensure participants continue to receive holistic care.

At the end of  this inaugural cohort’s three-year term in the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), our three villages will graduate about 90 students who will have marketable skills and business training and will have established independent businesses.

In addition, about 300 siblings of these students will also benefit from the YEP group, through school fee assistance, business training, and empowerment training. Many who have studied When Helping Hurts, Toxic Charity, or who have viewed the documentary Poverty, Inc. will find this COTN/ZOE partnership a robust, positive example of sustainable empowerment.

Your gift to this fund will help send students through a business and skills training program, hire a social worker to oversee it, and most importantly, equip young adults to live responsible, independent, meaningful lives.
