(DR) Water Projects

Fundraising Goal: $38,824
Currently Raised: $35,810
Still Needed: $3,014
= Denotes raised amount

Our objectives for this project are: (1) safer access and shorter distances for retrieving water (especially for women and girls), (2) cleaner water to reduce diarrhea and other illnesses in children, (3) better sanitation disposal, and (4) controlled access and storage of water for agriculture.

In addition, we would like to give our students the opportunity to start a business to drill wells anywhere in the country. This approach not only provides better access to critical water resources but also provides a source of sustainable income and job skills for our students.

Strategy:
In the village of Don Bosco, we plan to drill a new well, install solar panels, and train students on using the well ($17,500); purchase some new materials ($690); implement a one-year program to train staff on maintenance ($1,200); and implement a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program ($1,200). Total needed for Don Bosco: $20,590
In Altagracia, we plan to install a water purification system and solar panels ($8,200), and establish a maintenance program ($1,200) and a WASH program ($1,200). Total needed for Altagracia: $10,600
In Los Robles, we plan to repair the current filter system and solar panels ($5,234), and establish a maintenance program ($1,200) and a WASH program ($1,200). Total needed for Los Robles: $7,634
To train and equip older students to drill and maintain wells, we plan to partner with World Water Relief (WWR). WWR’s local and sustainable processes will allow us to establish low-cost models for well drilling and training students to maintain the wells.
