Summer Counseling Update Uganda

Last summer as I left Uganda, I prayed that God would continue healing the deep wounds of the children involved in the counseling groups. At Barlonyo camp my translator, Jane, and I led a counseling group under a tree for a few hours each day for five days. After the group I was able to see changes in the girls that I hoped would last. I especially worried about two special little girls who had little hope in their eyes.

The Seattle Mariners organization takes the role of community leadership very seriously. It is the goal and responsibility of the organization to be a community leader. Every year, Mariners Care, the team’s non-profit foundation, helps to raise over $1 million for various charities and community projects. This month, Children of the Nations was chosen as the recipient of their fundraising efforts.

Laura Brost (a journalist) and Scott Cook (a photographer) from Florida are serving in Sierra Leone this summer as our 2008 Intern Leaders. Share their journey as Laura chronicles the trip to share with readers. Laura, formerly a journalist with the Orlando Sentinel in Florida, first visited Africa as part of a Venture Team to Malawi last year—it was a trip that changed her life. She’s back serving in Africa again this year, and recently resigned from the Orlando Sentinel to come on staff with COTN as a Staff Writer this fall.

Children of the Nations had humble beginnings. When Chris and Debbie Clark started the ministry in 1995, they worked from a small office within their own home. Thirteen years later, as the ministry continues to grow—both in scale and staff—so has the need for office space.

Interns Depart to the DR for the Summer Dominican Republic

Each year, through our Intern Program, teams of college-age students serve in each of our countries. The interns spend eight weeks during the summer ministering to our children and supporting our in-country staff as well as leading personal ministry projects based on their passions and giftings.

Interns serving the Dominican Republic this summer are preparing to depart for their summer of service. This year’s interns are exceptional and will bless the DR with a variety of passions/giftings this summer:

The JESUS Film - An Update Uganda

The JESUS film ministry remains strong in Uganda. Large outdoor screenings continue in rural communities and we have recently begun to screen the JESUS film in schools. Last month, we showed the film in three secondary schools in the Lira area, registering 229 students who turned to Christ!

Over 3,000 Bare Feet in Malawi Soon to Have Shoes! Malawi

Tiny purple sandals. Sturdy leather boots. And some brand new basketball shoes.

These are just three of the 1,636 pairs of shoes recently collected by Northland Church in Longwood, Florida that will be sent to our children and staff in Malawi, Africa!

Each month, the children’s ministry at Northland Church has a special project to teach their children about giving. In May, they asked the children to donate pairs of shoes to Children of the Nations.
