Four Creative Prayer Prompts for You

04/30/14

One of the best things you can do for your sponsored child is pray for them. But it’s not always easy to know how. Your child is so far away, and honestly, our lives are busy. But we know how important prayer is, so here are a few creative prayer prompts for you and your family.

1. Embellish a map:
Decorate a map of the world or your sponsored child’s country using their picture, biography, or interesting facts about their country. You can stick the map to your wall, or frame it for a stylish reminder!

2. Set out a prayer jar:

Place a jar, pretty or plain, in a central location like the kitchen. You may also want to lay a pad of paper and pen beside it. As you think of prayers for your sponsored child, write them down and put them in the jar. Later, you and your family can open the jar and pray together!

3. Hang up a prayer board:

Hang up a community prayer board. It could be a chalk board, a dry-erase board, or even a cork board for prayer notes. Write the prayers for your sponsored child on the board for everyone to see.

4. Create a bookmark:

Make a bookmark with your child’s name, a Bible verse, maybe even their photo! Use the bookmark in your Bible or the latest book on your nightstand.

And don’t forget the simple but effective 3-by-5 note card. They make great prayer prompts too! Write your child’s name on the card and stick it on your bathroom mirror or to the dashboard in your car. Or, take your sponsored child’s picture and hang it on the fridge so it’s the first thing you see as you open the door. You might even want to hang a tiny bell beside it so the sound reminds you to pray.

Now that you’ve created a great prayer prompt, stay tuned next week for ideas of some things to pray about!
