Checking in with Malawi's Future Leaders

01/27/14

Right now in Malawi, you are helping 36 young adults make their way through college. These young people are studying hard today so they can transform their nation tomorrow. A few of them would like to share with you what their goals are and how your support is helping them reach those goals.

Mtisunge Kutchire – Future Accountant
Mtisunge grew up in the deeply impoverished village of Mtsiliza

Mtisunge grew up in the deeply impoverished village of Mtsiliza, just a stone’s throw away from COTN’s ministry center in Malawi. For young people from this village, college is almost always out of reach. But thanks to her sponsors, Mtisunge is now halfway through her accounting studies at Grey Matter Business School.

“Malawi is changing because now, some girls are going to school, and then after, we’re going to get some jobs which will help our country to develop,” Mtisunge says.

Please pray that Mtisunge will do well in her studies during her final two years of college, and that she will reach her goal of helping others who come from circumstances similar to her own.

Adam Kasonya – Future Business Manager
“Education is power,” Adam says. “It can really transform the entire nation."

Much like Mtisunge, Adam grew up in Mtsiliza without many prospects for his future. But now, thanks to his sponsors, Adam is also studying at Grey Matter Business School.

He has one year of school left, and recognizes the importance of education in his life and in his country. “As young men like me are getting educated, we will be the same people who will develop Malawi as a nation,” Adam says.

“Education is power,” he continues. “It can really transform the entire nation, through we young people who are given this opportunity.”

Please pray for Adam, that he will reach his goals and become one of the young people who helps change Malawi.

Sarah Akim – Future Teacher
Today, Sarah is at the University of Livingstonia, studying to be a teacher.

Sarah came into COTN’s Children’s Homes when she was seven years old. Her parents had passed away, and her grandparents could not provide for all of her needs. “When I was back in my village, I was not going to school, I was not eating enough food,” Sarah says.

Today, Sarah is at the University of Livingstonia, studying to be a teacher. “I want to help other children,” she says. “I want to transform the world by teaching.”

Please pray for Sarah to do well in her studies so she can indeed help other children through her future career.

Rebecca Chinseu – Future Teacher
Rebecca grew up in COTN’s Children’s Homes and is now studying to be a teacher

Like Sarah, Rebecca grew up in COTN’s Children’s Homes and is now studying to be a teacher. She’s been so encouraged by her sponsors over the years that she wanted to share this special message with all the sponsors out there.

“Thank you to all the sponsors. You can see from some of us that are going to school—that are in high school or university—that you are not just doing that for nothing, but you are making change in different lives, and we are the testimonies.”

Please pray that Rebecca does well in school so she can achieve her dream of becoming a teacher and sharing her love of education with the next generation in Malawi.
