The Philanthropy Advisor (PA) is responsible for managing a portfolio of about 80 donor partners and groups (churches, businesses, etc.) in a defined geographic region. The PA reports directly to the Philanthropy Manager and works collaboratively with the Advancement group to build deep, strong relationships with donor partners. Generally, the PA will develop, cultivate, and manage a portfolio that includes groups, mid-tier, and high-level capacity partners, and will minister to the needs of the donors and identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward these very important ministry partners to a deep and lasting relationship with Children of the Nations.
  • Build relationships with portfolio partners to help them fulfill their calling to serve.
  • Grow funding to support ministry initiatives, with a fundraising portfolio that includes: general funding, projects, and programs.
  • Develop and execute planned and measurable action steps designed to serve and deepen relationships through strategic meetings and event involvement.
  • Responsible for the acquisition and relationships with engaged partners who represent churches, businesses, and groups such as rotary, sports teams, etc.
  • Develop local church ambassadors, ensuring churches are actively participating in venture, sponsorship, and other funding priorities.
  • Develop and coordinate strategic events throughout the year with key partners and churches.
  • Meet performance objectives and goals.
  • Assure high level of accuracy and professionalism when providing information about COTN.
  • Oversee and maintain expense budget.
  • Perform maintenance/notes on donor data base records.
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
  • o Initiate contacts with potential major donor partners
  • o Develop appropriate cultivation strategies
  • o Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion to deepen relationships

Skills and Qualifications: 
  • Strong faith and dependence on Jesus Christ
  • Strong commitment to uphold and support COTN’s Mission and Vision statements as well as codes of conduct
  • B.S./B.A. degree or equivalent
  • Two or more successful years of experience in major gift fundraising or comparable experience
  • Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and a self-starter.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Must be proficient in software, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Ability to take responsibility for personal and organizational results, and proactively develop greater ability to expand the COTN mission.
  • Demonstrated and sincere interest in all aspects of COTN’s ministry and a dedication to promoting opportunities to serve
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas
  • Successful experience in developing in-depth cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Highly relational, excellent interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
  • Must be willing to travel an average of 5-10 days per month
  • Some evening and weekend work is required
