Program Description:
The village of Mgwayi is located to the west of Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, within walking distance of the Children of the Nations Njewa Ministry Center. This community consists of about 3,000 people, most of whom do not have access to proper education, food, or health care. Due to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Malawi, 53 percent of the country’s population is under age 18. The majority of women are widowed or divorced and leading single-parent households. Residents of Mgwayi are members of the Chewa tribe, which is heavily involved in secret societies and voodoo. Through the care of sponsors like you, children in Mgwayi receive an education, proper nutrition, and helpful resources like soap, clothing, and blankets. Partners like you also provide evangelism and discipleship for the growing Christian community in Mgwayi, and HIV/AIDS testing and awareness training for those who need it. Partners are also building a secondary school at our ministry center, and have constructed a community center and helped local widows start small businesses. By partnering with sponsors like you, we seek to provide the children of Mgwayi with the resources and care they need to become well-rounded individuals. By equipping these children and their caregivers with tools for success, they will grow up to create positive change in their community and ultimately their nation.
