Ansu comes to our COTN family from the village of Mokpangumba, where he lives with his parents, one sister, and six brothers. His family is supported through trading and farming, and they live in very poor conditions. Their house is made of mud and sticks with a thatched roof. Ansu helps his family at home by collecting firewood and carrying water. He speaks the traditional languages of Krio and Mende with his family, but speaks English at school. Through your sponsorship, he has increased opportunities and hope for his future.

Program Description:
Mokpangumba, which lies across the river from our Banta Ministry Center in Sierra Leone, has a population of about 500, consisting mainly of women and children. The majority of people come from a Muslim background, but traditional African spiritual practices (including witchcraft, secret societies, and cultic activities) are prevalent. There is also a strong Christian presence because of a mission that worked in the village from the 1950s until the 1980s. Polygamy is common, resulting in large families with many children. Families support themselves through subsistence farming and fishing. Through the care of sponsors like you, the children of Mokpangumba have access to COTN’s medical clinic, feeding program, and a good education. Older children can attend COTN’s Mallory Jansen Memorial School at our ministry center in nearby Ngolala. COTN’s in-country staff has also built a small primary school in Mokpangumba for the youngest children. Our in-country staff provides spiritual support for the people of Mokpangumba through discipleship training and church services, and teaches improved health care practices through the Health Animators program. Through continued sponsorship, we seek to provide the children of Mokpangumba with the resources and care they need to become well-rounded individuals. By equipping these children and their caregivers with tools for success, they will grow up to create positive change in their community and ultimately their nation.
