Children of the Nations began its ministry with a focus on the most desperate children in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital. People like you began caring for these children by constructing an orphanage on the outskirts of Freetown. As the children grew, and sponsors like you helped to expand this ministry to include more children and better care, a change was needed. The Sierra Leone Children’s Homes were born out of a desire to provide our children with a more spacious and traditional African environment in which to grow up. Our Children’s Homes incorporate two things that are highly valued in African culture: family and community. Consisting of ten houses, the Sierra Leone Children’s Homes are located behind our Banta Ministry Center in the Upper Banta chiefdom of southern Sierra Leone. The homes sit on the same site as our school facilities, medical clinic, administrative offices, and farm. All of these facilities are situated near several villages, which allows our children daily interaction with local people and culture. Each home is staffed with a house mother who provides safe, nurturing care for the children. The mothers are assisted by aunties, and overall supervision and support is provided by a home father. With support from sponsors like you, we seek to provide these children with the resources and care they need to become well-rounded individuals who will have a positive impact on their community and their nation.
