Jim (or JiMbO to his friends) is the COTN Liaison Officer for Malawi. He lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland with this wife Jan and three children Becca, Josiah and Faith. He loves wearing Hawaiian shirts, BBQing, watching rugby and arguing about which marvel movies are the best. He is passionate about Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland.
By supporting him you will be making a huge contribution to the lives of young people in Malawi through the following projects:
• Three village partnerships in Mtsiliza, Mgwayi and Chilombo. These villages are near to the COTN centre in Lilongwe which is the capital city of Malawi. Through your support over 1000 children can get access to clean water, food, education, job training, discipleship and more.
• A Children’s homes, Chitipi Farm which provides a safe home to over 30 children who need residential care.
• Njewa Ministry Centre which is home to a secondary school (The International Christian Academy) with over 150 students, Dormitory accommodation for many of these students, a medical center as well as guest housing for international volunteers, which some day could be you!
Malawi is such a beautiful country with so much going for it. Its nickname is ‘The Warm Heart of Africa’ as its people are so friendly. But it is also one of the world's least developed countries with much of its economy is based in agriculture and it has a mostly rural population. To this day, many children are forced to give up their education in order to work to support their families. Girls often miss many days at school as they are expected to collect water and to look after the home.
COTN wants to change this by providing children and their families the support they need to complete their education and to lift themselves out of poverty.
We seek to help those who need it most with a hand up not a hand out. By working to empower the next generation of young people by providing education and support for growth and development through targeted sustainable projects we have seen many wins. For example, Naman who has been with COTN since a child has graduated with a degree in economic and agriculture, Abelo who has been with COTN since he was 8 has now graduated with a degree in Environmental management and Chickondi has now completed her degree in Accountancy. All of these young people have been given a chance through the generosity of people like you and they are now making a difference in their communities and helping to transform their own nation.
Why not partner with Jim and see the difference that your support can make in the life of a child in Malawi.
