Children of the Nations recognizes that parents of interns probably have the most difficult task during the summer. Sitting at home wondering how their kids are doing can be frustrating and filled with anxiety. Unfortunately, we can’t control parental feelings, but we can attempt to console you in the success of our program, as well as give you some tools for the “Just in case- Emergency Moments.”
Children of the Nations has been sending students overseas for the past ten years. Some of our first interns are now avid supporters or have come to work at COTN as staff. Conservatively, we have hosted 400 students overseas during these past ten years. According to our alumni interns the experience is overwhelmingly positive and life changing. God has used the eight-week program to change their lives forever.
Contact Policy
While your son/daughter is in-country, we have asked that during the first four weeks, the interns refrain from communicating with the “outside world.” We have found that with computers and the Internet, interns can get culturally distracted from their purpose in-country. After four weeks, interns will be able to communicate via e-mail once a week and may also call as their return date gets closer. For some parents, this policy may be difficult, but we ask that you honor this request.
Emergency Contact Info
If there is an Emergency during the summer please call (360) 698-7227. Someone from our staff will be there to answer your questions or concerns.
Care Packages
Parents often want to send care packages to their children. We totally understand and have no problem with this; however, please realize that we can not guarantee that the package(s) will arrive in a timely manner, if at all. Our In-country Coordinators tell us that sometimes they receive care packages eight months after the intern leaves, while at other times they arrive within two weeks. If you desire to send something to your son/daughter, we recommend sending the package within the first week or two of their departure. Otherwise, there is a chance they won’t receive it. We appreciate any support you can give our interns during their time in-country.
Mailing Instructions
Double envelop (outside address with country address / inside envelop with intern’s name on it). Interns must pay for the weight of any care package—it is recommended to send flat letters only.
